These exquisite 50ml room sprays (or body sprays) are made from pure essential oils and fragrances, blended with distilled water and pure alcohol.  Non alcohol versions are also available.
The combinations can be light and fresh, rich and warming, sensual and earthy, calming and relaxing, uplifting and energising.
Some are designed to remove cooking and cigarette smells or to ward off insects and mosquitoes or to create an exotic ambiance.
Typical oils used:  lavender; orange blossom; rose; jasmine;  thyme; vanilla; coconut; frankincense; neroli, bergamot; lemon grass; oud; misk; amber; mint; geranium; sage; basil, sandal wood.
 


Fragrances can be created to help balance your Ayurvedic constitution.  Special blends to balance Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas.
For these Ayurvedic sprays, you would need to have a 10 minute consultation with Susan, the fragrance blender.  
Alternatively if you know your Ayurvedic constitution, a blend can be created to match.

THE WILD HERBS THAT GROW IN SOUTH SINAI

Sinai has amazing bio-diversity. Over 800 plant species in the south alone and in particular in the St. Catherine area. Many of the herbs have medical uses, the healing and nutritional knowledge of these plants has been carried and preserved by the Bedouin tribes for over 1500 years.

BA’ATHARAN /ARTEMISIA JUDAICA / JUDEAN WORMWOOD

Ba’atharan is bitter in taste, as most potent antimicrobial medicinal herbs are. It is said to activate the metabolism and cleans the stomach of ingested irritants and parasites. The Bedouin dry and grind it down to a powder which is consumed with a glass of water to treat extreme stomach aches and gases. It can also be consumed as a tea to cleanse an upset tummy.

External Use: Bathe in cooled Ba’atharan infusion to soothe irritated skin from insect bites.

The dried herbs put in a fine cloth and left in cupboards, rooms or wardrobes will deter the common clothes moth and keep your woolen sweaters etc. intact.

 

HABAK /MENTHA LONGIFOLIA / DESERT MINT

Habak is a relaxant, said to lower blood pressure and is traditionally used to treat coughs and mild respiratory issues as well as ridding the stomach of gases.Add a pinch of Habak to flavor a pot of black or green tea

 

MARMAREYA /SALVIA TRILOBA / JERUSALEM SAGE

Marmareya has a soothing and relaxing character, especially for women, as it is claimed to regulate menstruation cycles and is traditionally used to aid those undergoing miscarriage. It is also prescribed to treat stomach and colon disturbances. Consuming Marmareya regularly as a general tonic, boosts one’s immunity and overall health.

Culinary use: Marmareya butter sauce goes perfectly with grilled spaghetti or ravioli

Infusion as tea, can also be mixed with other herbs or black or green tea.

Sage is also traditionally burnt to purify the air, as its tea purifies the body





SAMWAH / CLEOME DROSERIFOLIA /  CLEOME HERB

The Bedouin traditionally use Samwah as an antibiotic and anti inflammatory agent, administering it topically on infected wounds and drinking its strong bitter tea for quicker results.  A go-to remedy for painful bee stings.

Samwah has been given to diabetics to help lower blood sugar but this should always be done with medical advice and the aid of a qualified herbalist.

MORINGA OLEIFERA

Moringa is a plant that is often called the drumstick tree, the miracle tree or the ben oil tree. It has been used for centuries due to its medicinal properties and health benefits. It also has antifungal, antiviral, antidepressant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Moringa contains many healthful compounds such as:

  • vitamin A

  • vitamin B1 (thiamine)

  • B2 (riboflavin)

  • B3 (niacin), B-6

  • folate and ascorbic acid (vitamin C)

  • calcium

  • potassium

  • iron

  • magnesium

  • phosphorus

  • zinc

It is also extremely low in fats and contains no harmful cholesterol.

Warnings: it lowers blood pressure and so do not take if you are using blood pressure-lowering medication.

Not with diabetic medication as it lowers blood sugar.

Not during pregnancy.

 

ZA’ATAR /ORIGANUM SYRIACUM / WILD OREGANO

Za’atar is a relaxant, claimed to lower blood pressure, as well as a digestive that treats heartburn and stomach cramps. Its spicy tea is the perfect cure for a sore throat or cough. It can be infused in tea, olive oil or used as a spice.

Culinary use: Crush and sprinkle dry or fresh Za’atar on white cheese with olive oil or eggs, add it to your favorite foul (fava-bean) or stew recipes. Our Zaatar mix is a combination of the dried herb plus cumin, coriander, sesame seeds and sumac.
